The Dorchester Hotel

Locker & Riley's scope of works included the design development, model, mould, manufacture & installation of decorative plaster ceilings including secondary metal support, cornices, wall mouldings, pilaster and alterations to existing columns to the Front of House areas at the Dorchester Hotel.

Locker & Riley played a pivotal role in the design development of the fibrous plaster details, working closely with the Architect and Interior Designer to ensure that their creative vision was fully realized. By utilizing existing asset enrichments and designs, we maintained a balance between tradition and innovation.

To preserve historical authenticity while delivering bespoke results, we cast enrichments from existing designs stored within Locker & Riley’s extensive archive. These enrichments were then incorporated into custom moulds at our studio. This approach allowed for the creation of new ceiling designs that aligned seamlessly with the project’s programme and budget.

A bespoke MF-type grid was engineered to support the intricate fibrous plasterwork. This robust yet flexible structure provided a strong foundation for the installation of design elements while allowing for the precise placement of enrichments.

Many of the fibrous plaster designs included integrated services, demonstrating Locker & Riley’s commitment to both aesthetics and functionality. Lighting, air conditioning systems, metal grilles, mirrors, and smoke detectors were carefully concealed within the plaster elements, maintaining the integrity of the design while meeting modern expectations and Health & Safety requirements.
